Small Courtyard garden in West Dulwich
The client wanted a garden to sit and socialise but mainly to have a lot of planting to attract wildlife and pollinators.
As part of the house renovation a wall of glazing looked out onto the courtyard with large sliding doors creating an inside/outside space. A large, shallow step down from the inside living space leads onto sufficient hard landscaping to accommodate a round table with four chairs and additional space outside the doors for a lounger when wanted. The old fencing was removed and bespoke tall open slatted fencing was installed in line with the requirements of the Dulwich Estate. This allowed views beyond the garden boundary to the communal green space. The garden is already blessed with lovely brick walls. Tension wire trellis was installed to support perfumed climbers.
Plants will soften the edges of the porcelain plank paving that has been used to create an uneven edged hard surface.
The borders were planted with a multi-stemmed Amelanchier lamarckii, long lasting perennials and spring bulbs and flowers to create a planting palette that will give interest from early spring to late autumn. The planting was completed in late autumn 2022.
